Fizzy Bath Bombs

Alan Kiraly (from the web programming department), and his wife, Michaeline, made these bath bombs at home for their Christmas gifts. Alan says they were simple and easy to make, and fun because you use your hands - you get the baking soda and essential oils on your hands and it feels good and smells nice. It is also fun to choose the scent combinations, and best of all it's easy to do. To make your own bath bombs, you first go down to the store and check out the different essential oils. … [read more...]

Lip Balm

I don't know about you, but lip balm is one of those things that I never have enough of. I keep one in my purse, one in the car, one in my coat, and the list goes on. The good news is that you can make it for yourself, your friends or all of your wedding attendants if you follow these instructions. You can even be your own aromatherapist, mixing signature scents that are yours alone. Have fun, and don't forget to label them with the scent, the date or a few sweet words. … [read more...]

Cupcake Pops

After I made the wedding pops that I showed you a few weeks ago, I decided to try some other versions of cake pops. These adorable pops are much easier and SO cute. I found the idea originally on Bakerella.com.  You could use these for a child's birthday party or for a baby shower. You follow the same instructions for the wedding pops, you just shape them differently. The first thing you do is bake a cake.  Any cake, any flavor, from a box or from scratch, doesn’t matter.  I used chocolate … [read more...]

Really cool savings

When buying a room AC unit, look for one that has earned the EPA's ENERGY STAR.  If every room air conditioner in the US were ENERGY STAR qualified, they would prevent 900 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions annually - equivalent to the emissions from 80,000 cars. … [read more...]

Canned Apple Slices

Choose medium size, good shaped, just-ripe apples which hold their shape when cooked - allow 1-1/2 pounds for each pint. Use about 10 pounds of apples for this recipe. Wash the apples, then peel, core and slice into wedges or rings. Soak slices in the vinegar-salt … [read more...]

Grape Juice

Canning is one of my favorite things.  Not so much the process, that can be a real pain.  But I love the results.  Late every fall, jars and jars of home-canned goodness line up on my pantry shelves.  The feeling of accomplishment is so great that sometimes when I'm having a bad day, I just go down and look at my pantry shelves.  I know, pathetic isn't it?  But it really makes me feel better. One thing I hadn't ever done was juice.  A few years ago, however, I got a call from a friend who … [read more...]

Pink Applesauce

Canning has been a part of my life for a long time.  Even back when it wasn't trendy and stylish like it is now.  My mom never canned when we were growing up except for the occasional jar of pickles so I'm not really sure why I got the desire to start canning but for whatever reason, I did.  Shortly after my marriage I decided that I would try my hand at canning peaches.  A friend had found an orchard where we could u-pick for a fairly inexpensive price so off we went.  I came home with far … [read more...]
