DIY Art Coasters

A favor idea for your next party: add your own art coasters! This is a neat idea for a party or get together for children or adults. Order some coasters, supply pens and then watch the creativity flow. At the end of the party you can round them up and perhaps take a few photos to share with all the party goers- or send them home with guests as a reminder of the time they spent with you. Sometimes being asked to be creative on the spot can be daunting. To aid guests who might feel a little shy … [read more...]

DIY Crayon Heart Garland

While searching for decoration inspiration, I recently came across this tutorial for Crayon Hearts, and knew I had to make them for my friends and family to give as party favors for my Valentine’s Day party this year. I made as many crayon hearts as I could, using all of the festive colors (reds, purples, and pinks) that I could find in my old crayon box. Then, once my hearts were cut and ready, I strung them together with embroidery floss to be hung near windows for a stained glass effect. I really … [read more...]

Baked Clay Ornaments

My husband and I are really fond of Christmas, so we always decorate our home just as soon as Thanksgiving dinner is over. This year, after all of our Christmas decorations were up, we realized that our Christmas tree was looking a little sparse. Perhaps some of our old ornaments were broken or lost, or maybe we never had that many to begin with. Either way, we decided we needed more decorative attire for our tree, and came across this fun idea for baked clay ornaments. We went to the craft store … [read more...]

DIY Christmas Paper Garland

I'm having a Christmas party this December, so I want to make something fun to give away as favors to our guests at the end of the night. Lucky for me, an idea struck just as I was preparing this year's Christmas decorations: paper garland favor boxes! I make paper garlands all the time, but never thought to give them away as gifts until now. They're so simple to make, taking very little time and money so long as you have a sewing machine. If you don't have paper circle punches at home, you can … [read more...]

Gift Tag Ornaments

While brainstorming about what delightful Christmas goodies I could pack away in my little Christmas Cheer Packets, I hit upon this idea: personalized handmade Christmas ornaments. Flat ones, of course, so that they could be sent in the mail. Custom hang tags from My Own Labels made up half of this gorgeous and easy little project. After ordering and receiving the tags, one only has to find a decorative paper to hang behind the tag and look beautiful. The paper I found at a local craft store to … [read more...]

Simple Gifts: Cinnamon Sachets

This is a sweet and easy gift to put together, especially if you have little hands to help. Cinnamon sachets hung in the kitchen are a beautiful way to store cinnamon for use in cooking, or just for looking at. Sachets are also good for freshening a closet or drawer, garnishing a stack of towels in the guest room, and - my favorite - as an ornament for the Christmas (or Easter) tree. You will need: • cinnamon sticks • ribbon or raffia • tags Be sure to allow for plenty of ribbon or … [read more...]

DIY Christmas Wreaths

For Christmas this year, I thought it would be fun to surprise my family by hanging homemade wreaths on their front doorknobs. After a quick search on DIY Christmas wreaths, I found a tutorial for the most amazing toilet paper roll version over at See You There Design, and started collecting toilet paper and paper towel rolls for the project. After a month or two of collecting rolls (and acquiring donations from generous friends) I had enough to start my project. Once they were finished, I was … [read more...]

Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Thanksgiving, for me, is the true beginning of the holiday season. It's a day to relax and spend time with my family while enjoying a delicious turkey feast! This year I wanted to add something special to the usual festivities my family shares, so I came up with this simple centerpiece idea. First, I gathered some pretty branches from my backyard to create a winter bouquet for our thanksgiving table. Next, I ordered some personalized hang tags with the quote, "Gratitude is the sign of noble … [read more...]

Pumpkin Place Cards

Every year, in addition to carving pumpkins, I like to paint mini pumpkins as table decoration for my annual halloween party. Last year I painted Day-of-the-Dead skulls on a few pumpkins for a table centerpiece. This year, I thought it would be fun to have a mini pumpkin at each table setting with each guest's name hand-painted on the pumpkin. They were so simple to make. I bought the pumpkins at my local grocery store and used black acrylic paint and a small paintbrush to add the names to each … [read more...]

Alice in Wonderland Tea Party

What's more fun than throwing an Alice in Wonderland inspired tea party? As one of my favorite children's stories, nothing sparks my imagination quite like Lewis Carroll's talking flowers, the cheshire cat's smile, the queen of hearts, and of course the Mad Hatter's tea party. Alice in Wonderland is a wonderful party theme and there is so much you can do to recreate the magic that happened down the rabbit hole. For this fun Merry Unbirthday party I used: • Vintage yellow tea set. • Gerber … [read more...]
