Christmas Cheer

Welcome our newest contributor, Anna Lorton! Anna was born in Idaho and raised in Oregon. She has traveled the world and lived and studied in far away and exotic places like Illinos, Florida, and Hamburg, Germany. Portland, however, is her favorite place to be. She works for My Own Labels as a data wrangler. In her spare time she likes to write letters, craft, folk dance and read. I love snail mail. I usually send it more than I receive it, but that has never dampened my enthusiasm to send … [read more...]

Simple Gifts: Cinnamon Sachets

This is a sweet and easy gift to put together, especially if you have little hands to help. Cinnamon sachets hung in the kitchen are a beautiful way to store cinnamon for use in cooking, or just for looking at. Sachets are also good for freshening a closet or drawer, garnishing a stack of towels in the guest room, and - my favorite - as an ornament for the Christmas (or Easter) tree. You will need: • cinnamon sticks • ribbon or raffia • tags Be sure to allow for plenty of ribbon or … [read more...]

Handmade Dish Scrubbies

If you read my posts here on planning a DIY wedding, you'll know that I was married in September (The wedding was perfect!). At first, I was worried about what I would do with all of my decorations once the big day was over, but now that I'm not spending all of my time planning a wedding, I'm using my free time to explore new and interesting ways to use up all of my leftover wedding materials. For instance, I recently ran across a free pattern for crocheted dish scrubbers made of tulle! The pattern … [read more...]

DIY Tea Bags

Last week, I saw an amazing tutorial over at A Beautiful Mess for DIY loose leaf teabags, and I knew had to try it for myself! Lucky for me, I just happened to have a box of loose black tea and some pumpkin pie spice lying around the house, so I thought this would be the perfect time of year to make gift boxes of homemade pumpkin spice tea to give to my friends and family for the holidays. This project ended up being super fun, and because I already had everything on hand, the whole thing was … [read more...]

DIY Candy Filled Pumpkin Favors

These candy-filled pumpkins are so cute and fun to make. I originally got the idea from Martha Stewart's Cherry Bomb Wedding Favor How-To. But instead of a cherry, I decided to make pumpkins for Halloween favors. I even added my own favor tags to make them more special and unique! Martha's how-to says these are "a cinch to make" but it took a little practice for me to get the hang of it. After making 4 duds, I came up with these beauties! Tools & Supplies: • Orange tissue paper • Scissors • … [read more...]

Father’s Day Beer and Crochet Cozy Pattern!

With Father's Day right around the corner, I want to give my dad a gift I know he'll love - his favorite beer. And while I know the beer will be well appreciated on its own, I want to make my gift to him extra special, so I've decided to dress his favorite brand of brew with personalized beer labels. To top it off, I've made my father a couple simple crocheted beer cozies to accompany the rest of his gift. I wasn't able to find a pattern for this project on the internet, so I created my own. This … [read more...]

May Day Basket

Every year I look forward to the month of May. May means that spring is in full bloom and the season of farmer's markets and outdoor art walks begin. Living in Portland, Oregon, I love seeing people out and about, enjoying the first days a sunny weather. You can find people out taking a stroll, working in their gardens or even enjoying a happy hour on a patio of their favorite local restaurant. After a long, cold winter, I am ready to celebrate warmer weather! One tradition that has been mostly … [read more...]

Easter Basket Favors

In my opinion, holidays are the best excuse to get crafty. I love making little gifts or favors for each and every holiday. With Easter just a few weeks away, I thought I'd share with you this fun idea: Easter Basket Favors. I'm making mine for friends and coworkers, but this is a gift anyone will enjoy and a great project to do with kids! Supplies Needed: • Small party cups or dixie cups (I found mine at the Dollar Store) • Your favorite Easter candy (I chose mini robin's eggs) • Green … [read more...]

Will You Be My Flower Girl?

Last month, I wrote about planning a D.I.Y. wedding, offering tips and tricks that have helped me prepare for my own wedding scheduled for September. This month, I'd like to share something a little different. Our wedding is now less than six months away, so it's time to start forming the bridal party. For this process, I wanted to make it super fun by turning it into a project, so I've ordered some note cards that say, "Will you be my…" on the outside, but are blank on the inside. Because the … [read more...]

Planning A D.I.Y. Wedding

If you've already read my wedding post on color inspiration, you know that my fiancé and I are planning for our D.I.Y. wedding in September, and that we're hoping to incorporate as many handmade, recycled, and thrifted items into our day as possible. This, of course, includes the wedding favors. I'll admit, choosing a wedding favor was difficult for me. I had no idea where to begin! Thankfully, a friend of mine pointed out the What to Say section on the My Own Labels website, which has loads … [read more...]
