Pumpkin Pie-In-A-Jar

pumpkin-pie-1

For Halloween this year, we're hosting a pumpkin-themed party to slim down our enormous squash harvest from the family garden. We'll be serving pumpkin soup with pumpkin biscuits, drinking pumpkin juice, and for dessert? You guessed it: pumpkin pie. Although we're baking full-sized pies for the party, I thought it'd be fun to send our guests home with their own individual pumpkin pie-in-a-jar to bake fresh at their convenience. Each pie is the perfect individual-sized dessert, and takes less … [Read more...]

Crisp n’ Sweet Pumpkin Seeds

In the Southwest, where I currently call home, the transition into Fall is marked by finally rolling down your car-windows in the evening, opening up the house, and turning off the air conditioning. The humidity persists into mid December, which creates a disastrous environment for vegetables typically associated with Fall, like pumpkins, squash, and other gourds. Considering a pumpkin you might carve for Halloween lasts around three days outdoors, I’ve been on the hunt for more creative ways … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Butter

pumpkin-butter-3

We've got an abundance of pumpkins in our family garden this year, so I thought it'd be fun to roast a few of our extras for pumpkin puree and pumpkin butter. I'm especially excited about the pumpkin butter because there's so much you can do with it. You can go simple and spread it over toast like you would with jelly, or you can add a teaspoon or two into your morning yogurt, oatmeal, or smoothie. I've also heard it works great as a replacement for pumpkin puree in soup, and homemade pumpkin … [Read more...]

Witch’s Bounty Treat Bags

I was searching for a surprising treat bag, when I came upon a photo from a Harry Potter inspired birthday party from Modern Hostess. I immediately thought this charming handmade favor-bag would suit my Halloween party, delightfully. You can put just about anything inside, and that mystery is great for your guests to take home! What You Need: • Scissors • Lunch-Sized Paper Bags (double the number of favors you plan to make) • Tape • Twine, Ribbon, String, etc. • Sticks, … [Read more...]

Bare Bone Pretzel Treats

bone-treats-1

I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to the gory and gross displays that go hand-in-hand with this haunting holiday. This recipe is a delicious and spooky treat for all upcoming Halloween festivities- its timid enough for children, and adorable enough for adults to enjoy, as well. I’m taking a bowl of these to work with me, because Halloween falls on a Tuesday, and then giving them away in cellophane bags for staff-members’ little ones. Ingredients: Makes 10 Bones per every 2 Ounces … [Read more...]

Cranberry Spice Infused Vodka + DIY Coffin Gift Box

I love the month of October. Though I'm sad to see summer end, I always look forward to Halloween (my favorite holiday). Last week I posted some goth-inspired wedding inspiration to get in the spirit of all things dark and mysterious. While brainstorming favor ideas I came across Martha Stewart's Coffin Treat Box tutorial and decided try making my own. I wanted to create a fun 'adult' gift or favor idea for a halloween party or goth wedding. After crafting a few coffins I decided a mini bottle … [Read more...]

Hosting a Pumpkin Carving Party

pumpkincarving-party-2

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. I love the creative costumes, the spooky music and scary movies, the parties, and most of all- carving pumpkins. Every year, my boyfriend James and I host not only our annual Halloween cocktail party, but also a pumpkin-carving party a few weeks before. We make finger food, serve hard cider and fall ales, and invite friends to bring a pumpkin over to carve while we watch a halloween theme movie (my favorite is anything Tim Burton) or listen to our … [Read more...]

Hoot Nibbles: Cardamom Shortbread Cookies

owl-cookies-a

In keeping with the quick satiation of my sweet tooth, I’ve become a collector of cookie recipes. I find that making cookies is a quick and cathartic process that you can spend a weeknight doing, and enjoy for a few weeks (or less, in my house). I found the idea for the owl-shaped shortbread cookies from this photo. However, there was no recipe to accompany it. The construction seemed simple: whole-almond beak and chocolate-chip eyes, on shortbread cookies. Always on the hunt for stretching … [Read more...]
