Spring is coming and I am pretty excited about it! I have lived in many different places and when people ask me if Portland is really that rainy, I joke that Portland has only two seasons: “Raining” and “Not Raining”. And spring in Portland usually falls firmly in the “Raining” part of the year. So to mark the very happy occasion of new things, new gardens, new plants, new life and a new season in general I decided to make up a simple flower card to send with spring greetings to friends.
I uploaded some photos that I had taken of flowers to My Own Labels and put my own words on them using the Caption style (shape 23). I chose photographs of flowers I took from a variety of different occasions; from my wedding, some from a Sauvie Island pick-your-own flower farm, and a bouquet that caught my eye at Pike’s Place Market while visiting Seattle.
At my local craft store (I am very fond of Collage on NE Alberta in Portland) I found some cards and envelopes in ‘spring’ colors. To assemble the cards I placed the flower labels onto one side of the card. Using a ruler, I drew a straight line for the stems and doodled some leaves. I also used some decorative washi tape to jazz the front up.
One of the really beautiful things about this idea is that it can be adapted for any occasion: moving announcements (with pictures of the house and family on the labels), save the dates (with pictures of the happy couple), new baby announcements (pictures of the baby), invitations to birthdays, retirement parties, baby or bridal showers- you get the idea- any occasion. So you don’t have to send it out for the first of spring, but it is a great do-it-yourself idea for any time!
