Graduation Candy Favors

At My Own Labels, we love making things that add a little something extra to our customers’ most important celebrations. Right now, we’re in the midst of graduation season and it’s been fun seeing all the smiling faces in caps and gowns showing up on our coasters, labels and hang tags.

As I was browsing through some hang tags, it occured to me that the square ones could be really cute miniature mortarboard caps. They’re the perfect shape, thickness and even have a hole for the “tassle” to tie through. The only trick is finding something the right scale for the “cap” portion – perhaps something chocolatey…

After a trip to the grocery store candy aisle, I found that Rollos fit our smallest square hang tags best. The rest was easy. Just put some scotch tape on top of the Rollo candy wrapper and adhere it to the back of the hangtag. Then, loop two pieces of embroidery floss (in school colors) through the hole and cut to what seems like a good length. The candy caps can be served on a platter or scattered around on a party table for guests to pick up. Another idea is to spear the bottom of the caps with toothpicks and use them as cake decorations.
