Pinecone fire starters are a fun and useful craft I remember making in Girl Scouts. We melted beeswax in tin cans over the campfire and had fun dipping our pine cones in and then setting them out to dry. We then used them to help start our fires for campfire cooking. Having recently revisited this craft, I realized these fire starters could be a useful and beautiful gift to give. The process is simple enough and would make the perfect favor for a fall or winter wedding. Surprise your guests with this creative favor idea. Pinecone Fire Starters
Supplies Needed:
• White Beeswax
• Dry Pine Cones
• Candle Wick
• Large Tin Can
• Sauce Pan
• Drying Rack
• TongsCreate your own double boiler by placing a large tin can into a saucepan filled with a few inches of water. Melt your beeswax in the tin can completely. While you are waiting for the wax to melt, wrap the candle wick around each pinecone: leave a few inches of wick at the top and wrap it around the pinecone all the way down to the base.
Once your wax is melted and your pinecones are wrapped, dip each pinecone into the wax. You may want to use a pair of tongs to help rotate the can a little to cover the pinecone completely. Dip each pinecone in once and set on drying rack to dry. Once a little dry you can dip it in again until you get a good covering of wax.
Let your fire starters dry completely and then package them up for gift giving. Tie a scallop tag to each pinecone and place in small brown bags adorned with a label that reads “Flame of Love“.

One question: I’ve never heard of white beeswax, only the natural yellow kind. Paraffin wax is white. Where do you source white beeswax? Thanks!

I found the white beeswax at my local craft supply store. If you can’t find any in your area, Paraffin wax works well too and is actually more flammable than beeswax.
