Ah, February- when the weather is dark and dreary (and very wet if you live in Portland). What better way to cheer up the gloom than crafting at home with a cup of tea or even better with chocolate and a good friend? These handmade valentines were a blast to make and very easy. Supplies: • MOL labels, of your favorite styles and shapes with valentine words. I used Bible verses, but lines from poems ("Red is the Rose", "Shall I compare Thee...", "Roses are Red...") or classic valentine sayings … [read more...]

Easy as can be, and easy for giftees to love! Get gift cards to your favorite coffee house, bookstore, gourmet grocery or bakery, then insert them into these little glassine envelopes. Add a label that has a photo of you (or your cat, or your house, or your open kitchen window with a hot pie cooling on the sill) and a few appropriate words. Thank You Teacher!

With May here, we are finally getting a taste of summer. In Portland, things are slowly warming up and we are finally enjoying some warm sunny days in between spring rain showers. I remember when I was a kid, my friends and I would start counting down till the end of the school year and begin to make plans for summer break. With just one more month of school left, it's time to start thinking about thank you gifts for your favorite teacher. Showing your appreciation is important! And a small token … [read more...]

Will You Be My Flower Girl?

Last month, I wrote about planning a D.I.Y. wedding, offering tips and tricks that have helped me prepare for my own wedding scheduled for September. This month, I'd like to share something a little different. Our wedding is now less than six months away, so it's time to start forming the bridal party. For this process, I wanted to make it super fun by turning it into a project, so I've ordered some note cards that say, "Will you be my…" on the outside, but are blank on the inside. Because the … [read more...]

Save-the-Date Notecards

save the date note cards

My sister-in-law Kathie recently got engaged on 8-9-10 (August 9, 2010). She was very excited and happy to be engaged to a great guy named Tim. After her engagement, she immediately started brainstorming ideas for her wedding. The first thing decided on was the wedding date: 9-10-11 (September 10, 2011). Without any other details set, and the wedding still a year away, it seemed far too early to send out invitations. It was the perfect time, however, to send out save-the-date cards. Save-the-date … [read more...]

Personalized DIY Thank You Cards

Did you know that January is National Thank You Month? Coincidentally, January follows Christmas, our dedicated gift-giving holiday, so it's only logical that we would want to reciprocate the generosity of our friends and family with a gesture of gratitude for all of the gifts and well-wishes sent our way. And while it makes sense to send 'thank you' cards in exchange for Christmas gifts, we may also want to consider some less obvious reasons for giving thanks throughout the month. For instance, … [read more...]

Writing Thank You Notes

I grew up in a family where writing thank you notes was something that was expected. A verbal thank you was okay for some things, but I had the kind of grandma where thank you notes weren't just for weddings gifts, but for birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, or just a dinner party. Of course, this was the same grandma who stabbed her son (my father) in the elbow at dinner for having his elbows on the table! Manners were important to her and she did her best to pass that on to her grandchildren. As … [read more...]
