Spicy Curry Tuna Mix

In the spirit of March being National Nutrition Month, I thought I would give out a few parcels of a healthy recipe highlighting a food not often shown much attention- tuna fish salad. Tuna has always played the part of an extremely nutritious protein source, but I was hardly ever in the mood for it before I found out it could be more than mayonnaise and a can of tuna. Also, I’m always scared to try the store-bought version (I don’t think I’m alone in this), because there is nothing worse than … [read more...]

Clover Cookies

Decorating sugar cookies is something I enjoy for all sorts of holidays and events – not just Christmas. I especially love making a day out of it by inviting my friends over to help me, that way each cookie is frosted and sprinkled by a different person. This year for St. Patrick’s Day, I thought it would be super fun to try Martha Stewart’s recipe for Clover cookies, and give them away to friends in gift boxes. To create a clover stencil for your cookies, print out a clover template like … [read more...]

Boxicle Inspired Birthday

Sometimes finding a theme for your party can be difficult. I know - I've spent many hours on the internet looking for inspiration. Why not use one of our label designs...  a coworker recently came up with a brilliant idea, and I just had to share it. For her daughter's 18th birthday she had some labels made with the Boxicle design and added her daughter's senior pictures. She used the labels to make invitations, simply attaching them to a piece of card stock. On the back of the card stock she wrote … [read more...]

Roasted Garlic & Onion Jam

Roasted Garlic and onion jam is a spread that can be used in multiple ways. For instance, I like to smear it over toast for a quick and simple snack, but it can also be paired with a fried egg or served over potatoes. No matter how you use it, this savory jam adds a unique and delicious twist in flavor, and makes a great gift for your friends and family. Roasted Garlic & Onion Jam • 3 large red onions • 3 heads of garlic, roasted • 4 tablespoons brown sugar • 4 tablespoons balsamic … [read more...]

Alfajores Cookie Recipe

Alfajores are a beloved Latin American sweet that is treasured everywhere as much for its filling of Dulce de Leche as for the completed sweet cookie itself, which is often encased in chocolate, or sometimes, as in our recipe below, rolled in coconut. There are probably as many recipes for Alfajores as there are houses in Latin America, but the commonalities they share is the baked sweet wafer and the filling of Dulce de Leche. These take a little time to make, but hey, what are we here for? They … [read more...]

Membrillo

You may notice that this is the second quince paste recipe on the blog. My friend Barbara made the first one, and my taste buds know how wonderful her quince paste turned out. But I made some too, and packaged it up differently from hers, so you can pick which version you want to make and package it up her way or my way. Or do something completely different - and if you do, please let us know! Barbara and I met over quince paste and membrillo. She calls it quince paste; I call it membrillo, because … [read more...]

Valentine Rum Truffles

February has a far more relaxing vibe than the preceding two months. The most notable holiday is Valentine’s Day; a holiday you can choose to celebrate on a large scale by sending out a plethora of notes, or more laid back and intimately spent with your sweetheart. I insist on doing both. My favorite way to continue the creative momentum and warmth of the holidays, usually climaxing on New Year’s Eve, is to give my loved ones little treasures on Valentine’s Day. To make it extra special and … [read more...]

Baked Veggie Chips

Super Bowl Sunday is a serious event. Not being a sports buff myself; growing up in Oregon, I could opt out of the raucous with ease. Sports fans in Florida are far more intense. There is no escape, so this year- I’m embracing! My roommates, Beth and Luc, are hosting a Super Bowl party at our house for 2012. It’s going to be epic carnage of yelling, cursing, sports jargon, and grub consumption. In order to entertain and satisfy the ladies attending with the brood, I prepared Baked Veggie Chips … [read more...]

The great thing about this recipe is that you can make it as simple or as fancy as you want. You can use any recipe for white cake that you like.
