DIY Crayon Heart Garland

While searching for decoration inspiration, I recently came across this tutorial for Crayon Hearts, and knew I had to make them for my friends and family to give as party favors for my Valentine’s Day party this year. I made as many crayon hearts as I could, using all of the festive colors (reds, purples, and pinks) that I could find in my old crayon box. Then, once my hearts were cut and ready, I strung them together with embroidery floss to be hung near windows for a stained glass effect. I really … [read more...]

Baked Clay Ornaments

My husband and I are really fond of Christmas, so we always decorate our home just as soon as Thanksgiving dinner is over. This year, after all of our Christmas decorations were up, we realized that our Christmas tree was looking a little sparse. Perhaps some of our old ornaments were broken or lost, or maybe we never had that many to begin with. Either way, we decided we needed more decorative attire for our tree, and came across this fun idea for baked clay ornaments. We went to the craft store … [read more...]

Circus Peanut Party Favors

No matter how old you are, themed birthday parties are always so much fun. I recently helped a friend plan a circus themed party for her son's 5th birthday. We chose favor and decoration ideas that were simple and easy to put together and the birthday boy and his guests loved them! Here are some fun ideas we chose for Trenton's circus party: • We decorated with red, orange and blue balloons. • We made a garland out of hang tags and colorful paper. • We made clown cupcakes with ice cream … [read more...]

DIY Candy Filled Pumpkin Favors

These candy-filled pumpkins are so cute and fun to make. I originally got the idea from Martha Stewart's Cherry Bomb Wedding Favor How-To. But instead of a cherry, I decided to make pumpkins for Halloween favors. I even added my own favor tags to make them more special and unique! Martha's how-to says these are "a cinch to make" but it took a little practice for me to get the hang of it. After making 4 duds, I came up with these beauties! Tools & Supplies: • Orange tissue paper • Scissors • … [read more...]

Candy Corn Party Mix

I am very excited about planning a kids Halloween party this year with my friends. We have lots of fun games and treats planned. I'm bringing my candy corn party mix. This is not your ordinary Chex mix either, it's full of little candy corn candies, and coated in white chocolate. I just know they will get eaten up quickly. And it makes me feel better knowing that the little ones will be getting a serving of whole grains and not even know it! Ingredients: • 4 cups Chex Mix cereal • 2 cups … [read more...]

I can't believe summer is coming to an end! Here in Portland, we only got a few weeks of hot weather and I'm still wanting more! When thinking of back-to-school gift and … [read more...]

Homemade Fruit Leather

Recently, I made an impulse purchase on a flat of strawberries at the farmer's market. The only problem? After I brought the berries home, I realized that I wasn't in the mood for making jam or pie. Lucky for me, I remembered running across a recipe for homemade fruit leather over on Simply Recipes just the other day, so I seized the opportunity to try it myself. The procedure is very simple, and written in such a way that you can utilize any fruit that's available to you. In fact, I plan on making … [read more...]
