As a kid I used to have Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, and Lucky Charms cereal for Saturday morning breakfast. I would wake up early in the morning, pad down to the kitchen in my footed pajamas, and grab the bowl full of kiddie catnip that was set in the fridge beside the milk. I was then all set to watch weekend morning cartoons while my parents had a well-deserved sleep in. Things have changed a little. I no longer have time to watch cartoons and I certainly don't want to get up early. … [Read more...]
The perfect gift idea for St. Patrick's Day!
A farmer's market-themed gift for Purim!
Purim is always an especially fun Holiday. This year, we are very excited to make a community Purim party with the theme of ‘Farmers Market’, and living in Mill Valley, California makes this a theme that's adored by all. So, as is tradition, we customarily give packages of food to one another (containing at least two different ready-to-eat foods requiring two different blessings), as one of the Mitzvot (commandments) of Purim! Here I have decided to keep with the theme and give out … [Read more...]
There's no better way to celebrate a 16 year anniversary than with chocolate! My husband and I celebrated our 16th anniversary and these were the decadent favors for our guests. The chocolate I used was none other than a slab of Scharffen Berger wrapped in paper and then adorned with a label that resembles the softness of wedding decor. A soft peach hue and white lace makes the finishing touch on these bars, so perfect and personal. The ribbon of hearts on the sides of the chocolate … [Read more...]

When moving to Florida in the Fall of 2009, I donated all of my coats, and cast away nearly all of my long-sleeved cozies. I never imagined I would experience a chill again. For the first time, Winter of 2014 (because as it happens, Winter doesn’t truly occur until after the first of the year), I’ve pined for my years of wonderfully warm layers— I’ve acclimated, as they say. I’ve been playing with different steamy drinks and baked morsels to liven each cup! I wanted to share a favorite … [Read more...]
Whether you wash your hands all winter to stave off the flu or all spring because you have been getting mucky in the garden, your cuticles take a beating. You may not think of them much in general, but when they dry out and start to crack you will certainly take notice. Dry cuticles can tear and boy, does it hurt! To make an all-natural healing cuticle balm you need healing ingredients and a wee bit of time. It's a very simple recipe. Apply cuticle balm to your nail beds and rub in 3-4 … [Read more...]
Just because it's a homemade cosmetic doesn't mean that it shouldn't sparkle! When making up a lip balm recipe I try all sorts of oils and wax combinations and test them for different properties like moisturizing quality, feel, and consistency. But this recipe turned out so shiny on my lips that it makes the perfect gloss! The citrusy scent seemed to be the perfect complement to the sparkly shine. It reminds me of summer and sunshine. To wear, first apply a lip balm or lip colour, and use … [Read more...]
