Game Day Prizes

Super Bowl Sunday is fast approaching and my husband and I are excited to be going to a party! We're not big football fans, but we do enjoy getting together with friends, rooting for a team, eating lots of salty food, and playing games. My favorite football party game is Squares. Traditionally, players would buy in and the pool of money would be used as the prize. However times are tough and I decided to give the Squares away for free this year. You may ask what the prize will be, since there is … [read more...]

Bride Ale

Did you know that back in the day- way, way back in the day- before their wedding, brides would brew a special batch of beer to sell? This was to raise funds for her and her husband's new life together. We still have traditions like these, money dances at wedding receptions and money trees on which wedding guests can clip paper money for the couples use. But there is no need for this bridal beer to fade into the past. I am not much of a beer brewer but I thought it would be neat to apply this … [read more...]

DIY Christmas Paper Garland

I'm having a Christmas party this December, so I want to make something fun to give away as favors to our guests at the end of the night. Lucky for me, an idea struck just as I was preparing this year's Christmas decorations: paper garland favor boxes! I make paper garlands all the time, but never thought to give them away as gifts until now. They're so simple to make, taking very little time and money so long as you have a sewing machine. If you don't have paper circle punches at home, you can … [read more...]

This year I wanted to add something special to the usual festivities my family shares, so I came up with this simple centerpiece idea. Mini Pumpkin Pies

After having so much fun making miniature cherry pies over the summer, I knew I wanted to try making mini pumpkin pies for fall treats. I came across a recipe for Pumpkin Pie Bites on Bakerella and fell in love with her idea of turning the mini pies into mini jack-o-lanterns! These little pies will be perfect to serve at my annual Halloween party this year. I packaged up my first test batch into cute little boxes and gave them to coworkers and friends. They loved them! Ingredients and Supplies: • … [read more...]

Pumpkin Place Cards

Every year, in addition to carving pumpkins, I like to paint mini pumpkins as table decoration for my annual halloween party. Last year I painted Day-of-the-Dead skulls on a few pumpkins for a table centerpiece. This year, I thought it would be fun to have a mini pumpkin at each table setting with each guest's name hand-painted on the pumpkin. They were so simple to make. I bought the pumpkins at my local grocery store and used black acrylic paint and a small paintbrush to add the names to each … [read more...]

DIY Candy Filled Pumpkin Favors

These candy-filled pumpkins are so cute and fun to make. I originally got the idea from Martha Stewart's Cherry Bomb Wedding Favor How-To. But instead of a cherry, I decided to make pumpkins for Halloween favors. I even added my own favor tags to make them more special and unique! Martha's how-to says these are "a cinch to make" but it took a little practice for me to get the hang of it. After making 4 duds, I came up with these beauties! Tools & Supplies: • Orange tissue paper • Scissors • … [read more...]
