New! Waterproof PLA labels

Our waterproof labels are designed for wet environments like showers, refrigerators, ice buckets, etc. They will withstand immersion in an ice bucket for many hours, and weeks in a damp shower environment. They look beautiful and are lovely to work with - easy to apply and easy to remove. Customers LOVE our PLA labels!

What's more, PLA is a natural biodegradable plastic, also know as 'thermoplastic aliphatic polyester' which is made by harnessing and breaking down natural plant sugars of corn, rice, wheat, tapioca, and/or sugar cane. It takes up to 65% less energy to create than petrochemical plastics, generates 68% fewer greenhouse gases, and is not made from petroleum products. It is 100% non toxic and is, in principle, compostable.

Drawbacks

PLA has a low melting point which means that when PLA orders travel through hot places like Arizona, the labels sometimes shrink (we will cheerfully replace them at no extra charge). Also, composting PLA must be at a temperature of at least 140 degrees for ten consecutive days; these conditions require a controlled facility. Finally, PLA labels are more costly to produce than paper labels because they require a separate environment; as a result we must charge more.

Our Commitment

We choose to invest in PLA. We believe that investing in this new technology will finance advances that will improve the product, and ultimately our lives and our children's lives. The only way to get anywhere is to head in the direction you want to go.
